Welcome to Ms. Wine's visual arts blog. I am an art educator currently teaching in New York City. I currently teach students in grades 3 - 5 at a public school in the Bronx. This is quite a change from my great home state of West Virginia. I am a proud graduate of West Virginia University with a bachelor's degree in Art Education. I also hold an MAEd from East Carolina University in Health Education.
I am interested in all things related to education. I love history (Thank you Dad!) and reading. (Mom is a retired English teacher.) I believe that we should never stop learning. I have loved art since I was a child and learn something new about how to teach art to children every day...having a creative five year old at home helps!! I believe we must cultivate the whole child and person: mind, body, and soul. Art is a wonderful tool through which to do this. In addition, I feel very strongly that we need to teach civic responsibility and leadership education through co-curricular activities such as student government in our schools.
I am currently enrolled in a graduate class that focuses on the use of technology in the classroom. The world of education is quickly evolving. We live in a digitial age where our students are able to get information at the touch of the screen. Our education methods and techniques must quickly evolve if we are to prepare our students to be successful citizens of the 21st century. The reflections tab at the top of the page will share my insights regarding technology.
Outside of the classroom my hobbies include scrapbooking and college athletics. Go Mountaineers!!!
