Who is that in the art room?

You may have noticed or heard about some new teachers who have been in the art classroom with Mrs. Wine this winter.  

Ms. Vivian is currently co-teaching with Mrs. Wine as she works to complete her degree at City College.  She is taking over primary teaching roles for grades 1 - 3.  In addition, she has started a book making club (seen above) with some 5th grade students who have eagerly agreed to work during their recess time on this project. Ms. Vivian will be working with our students through Spring Break.

Ms. Ginya was with Mrs. Wine during the month of January.  She is a college student from Williams College in northwest Massachusetts. Ms. Ginya was in NYC for the month of January with a group of students from her school who were exploring what it was like to teach in an urban setting. She is seen above working with kindergarten students in a painting station during our unit of the Element of Color.

Mrs. Wine feels fortunate to share her classroom with enthusiastic young artists such as Ms. Vivian and Ms. Ginya!!

Welcome to the 2018-19 School Year!!

Welcome back everyone!!!  If you are new to my blog take a few minutes to explore!!  You can click on the grade tabs to find updated information about what each class is learning.  Here you will also find enrichment activities you can do with your child or can encourage your student artist to do independently.  Please have your young artist bring these art making activities to class to share with me. (And I will give them a few extra credit points on their grade.) The "Resources" tab also has lots of information including links to local museum sites and other blogs/websites from teachers that I have found interesting.  Please take a moment to meet me or stop in and say hi at the school's "Meet the Teacher" evening on Monday, September 17.

Welcome to Second Semester

Welcome to the second semester of art!!  Some classes at PS 150 will continue with their art instruction for the year.  However, many students are getting art for the first time this year.  We change specialty classes at the mid point in the school year to allow as many students as possible to take advantage of all that our fine arts programs have to offer.  Please click the tab above that corresponds to your child's grade level.  Check out what we are doing in class!!  Look for opportunities and ways that you can extend your child's art experience at home.  As always, if you have any questions or need to reach out to me, please email me at ewine@schools.nyc.gov

Parent / Teacher conferences are this Thursday, November 16.  I will be in my classroom in the main building during both the afternoon and the evening sessions.  Please stop by to check on your child's progress in art.  We will be happy to share what we are doing in the art room!!!  See you in room 162!!!!

Chihuly at NY Botanical Garden

Welcome to the new 2017-2018 school year at P.S. 150!!!  

I had the opportunity to visit the Dale Chihuly exhibit yesterday at the NY Botanical Garden.  Chihuly is an American artist whose medium is blown glass.  His monumental installations are beautiful!!!  Visit the NY Botanical Garden yourself before October 29 to see his works in person!!
